Periodontal (Gum) Disease Treatment – Sikeston, MO

Comprehensive Gum Therapy Via Advanced Technology

Gum disease is often referred to as the “silent killer” and for good reason. The worst side effects are not particularly noticeable until it’s already too late. While the early stage of gum disease, or gingivitis, is easy to reverse, the advanced stages require professional intervention to effectively treat. At Dr. Chouinard’s office, you can expect not just detailed treatment, but services that use advanced technology to improve your outcome and experience. Give our office a call to experience the difference!

Why Choose William Chouinard DDS for Periodontal (Gum) Disease Treatment?

Scaling & Root Planing

Animation of scaling and root planing process

Considered the gold standard for periodontal therapy, scaling and root planing are ideal for removing plaque from below the gum line as well as infected gum tissue. Scaling is more extensive than a professional cleaning because it can reach areas of tooth enamel that a traditional cleaning cannot. Root planing works to promote reattachment of the tooth roots to the gums. The gums naturally recede from the roots when gum disease develops, so root planing is the best treatment to promote healing and recovery.

Atridox Antibiotic Therapy

As part of your scaling and root planing treatment, we will also provide an antibiotic designed to treat your periodontal infection. Dr. Chouinard applies the antibiotic directly to the infected tooth pockets, which will have grown extensively. Once it comes into contact with saliva, it will transform into a wax-like substance. Then, the gel will release its active ingredients over the next several days. We’ll reapply the gel as needed when you come back for your follow-up appointments.

Laser Gum Therapy

Woman with healthy teeth and gums

Our office uses the Pioneer Diode soft tissue laser to perform a myriad of periodontal therapies. This includes gingivectomies, frenectomies (which remove excess gum tissue), and treatments designed to expose decay or margins, such as pocket disinfection. Because the laser is so incredibly precise and conservative in its use, we can make your periodontal therapy more comfortable and reduce the amount of healing time necessary during aftercare. It also means no metal dental tools are required, making treatment easier.
